Code of Ethics
The Aportes Nueva Época journal promotes the dissemination of new scientific knowledge and adheres to the ethical criteria and editorial practices at the international level established by the COPE Publications Ethics Committee Core practices | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics.
The COPE provides publication ethical principles for authors, editors, reviewers and other persons involved in publication, to do their work responsibly and with integrity, in such a way as to avoid unethical conduct, such as data or images falsification, reference falsification, data manipulation to favor results, plagiarism (omission of citation or proper credit when using others’ ideas) and self-plagiarism; submission of an article simultaneously submitted to an other journal or editorial space, as well as unjustified, unauthorized or fake authorship or coauthorship; peer-review process with conflict of interest.
Ethical Responsibilities and Good Editorial Practices
Based on the COPE, the list below outlines the ethical responsibilities and best editorial guidelines that must be followed by the editorial team, authors, and referees during the editorial process.
Editorial Committee Responsibilities
- Disseminate the journal in the national and international academic community, as well as to promote the submission of articles to be published in it.
- Participate in the peer review process when required.
- Collaborate with the journal editorial team to evaluate, improve, and update policies and procedures published on the journal site, in order to ensure content quality and to monitor compliance with good editorial practices based on scientific journals’ international standards.
Editorial Team Responsibilities
- Carry out the necessary actions to fulfill the journal’s objectives.
- Carry out actions aimed at maintaining a high academic level of the journal’s published content.
- Follow up on submitted articles for publication in the journal and request the corresponding academic evaluation reports, ensuring the double-blind process at all times.
- Decide, together with the coordinator of each issue, what submitted articles meet the requirements to move on to the double-blind evaluation stage, taking into account the relevance, topic pertinence, and compliance with the text formatting specifications set out in the guidelines for authors on the website.
- Decide which submitted articles to publish based on the doble-blind evaluations and how authors addressed the reviewers’ suggestions.
- Inform the authors of the editorial decision regarding their article submitted for publication in the journal.
- Carry out the necessary actions to guarantee the timely and proper publication of the journal issue.
- Promote actions that favor the inclusion and/or continued listing of the journal in scientific journal indexes.
- Disseminate the journal’s issues publication.
- Maintain complete confidentiality regarding the authors’ information and the contents of the articles during the review process.
Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor Responsibilities
- Verify that all received articles are submitted to the corresponding software for plagiarism detection and the use of Artificial Intelligence.
- Decide, together with the coordinator for each issue, the reviewers for each article based on the topics to be evaluated, and send the corresponding invitations to review, as well as follow up on the review process of the articles through the OJS platform.
- Send the reviewers’ suggestions and recommendations to the authors and verify that they are addressed.
- Send the editorial decisions to the authors and follow up on the process.
- Generate DOI identification numbers for each article and issue to be published and verify their correct functioning.
- Coordinate and supervise the editorial production process of the issue, including style editing, layout work, and creation of XML, HTML, and ePUB special formats.
- Supervise the generation of the journal cover and keep the legal notice up to date on the platform and on the legal page for each issue.
- Upload each article and full journal issue on the OJS platform and monitor that each article’s metadata has been correctly incorporated.
- Keep the information updated on the journal’s OJS platform.
Editorial Board Responsibilities
- Disseminate the journal’s issues publication.
- Collaborate with the journal issue coordination tasks when assigned this function.
- Support the review and updating of the journal’s internal guidelines aimed at maintaining the healthy functioning of the structure and the quality of the journal.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding the journal’s internal information and processes.
Authors Responsibilities
- Follow the journal’s editorial guidelines for publication, ensuring the proposed article is original, unpublished, relevant, and aligned with the journal’s profile.
- Guarantee that the submitted article has not been previously or simultaneously submitted for publication in any other physical or electronic publication medium.
- Present research results honestly and without falsification or manipulation of data.
- Accurately and properly cite articles and documents by other authors that have served as references for the submitted manuscript, and provide complete bibliographic references for the cited documents, including the DOI or websites for their location. Failure to properly acknowledge the intellectual contributions of others through appropriate citations and bibliographic references is considered plagiarism.
- Declare the use of Artificial Intelligence for permitted cases, as indicated in the plagiarism and AI use policies.
- Declare in the article the sources of funding and any related conflicts of interest.
- Address, within the time specified by the editor, the observations, information requests, and requirements made during the editorial process.
Revieweers Responsibilities
- Decline the invitation to evaluate if it is not possible to carry out the evaluation within the deadline or if there is a conflict of interest, informing the journal’s editor of the reason for the refusal.
- Conduct the assessment of the assigned article with objectivity, impartiality, and considering its originality, its contribution to the field of study, and the relevance and suitability of the methodology used;as well as document the evaluation by filling out the assessment form provided on the journal’s OJS platform.
- State respectful and constructive observations and recommendations supported by scientific arguments and criteria.
- Inform the journal editor if, during the review, they find or discover they do not have the necessary experience to assess all aspects of the text.
- Inform the journal editor of any similarity between the text and another text that has been reviewed or the identification of any plagiarism.
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of information related to the evaluated manuscript and the issued opinion, during and after the process.
- Clearly state the approval, rejection, or conditioning of the text.
