Background
In 1995, as part of the activities for the 35th anniversary of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla Department of Economics, the creation of APORTES journal, as a non-profit academic, printed quarterly publication was determined. The journal would have three sections: Economic Forum, Contributions, and Reviews.
The journal was part of the CLASE (Latin American Citations in Social Sciences and Humanities), LATINDEX (Regional Online Information System for Scientific Journals of Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal), and REDALYC (Network of Scientific Journals of Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal), with a circulation that reached one thousand copies and electronic distribution of more than two hundred copies to researchers. It was distributed in bookstores, both in Puebla and Mexico City, as well as in some other states such as Chiapas, Yucatán, Veracruz, Jalisco, Hidalgo, Sonora, and Michoacán.
Since issue 8, the criterion that the Editorial Committee should be composed only of academics from the Department of Economics was changed, and the Committee was expanded by incorporating nine researchers from other Mexican Higher Education Institutions (UNAM and UAM) and abroad (USA, Brazil, Cuba, Spain Canada, and Chile). There were exchanges with thirty-six national and international journals.
In 2000, the Journal's official site was created and hosted on the Department of Economics server. The complete indexes of all the issues, the full text of three articles on the current and previous issues, and the full text of all the articles from numbers 16 to the last issue were included.
The APORTES Journal was suspended in 2013, with the last issue being number 49, corresponding to September-December of that year. It was in 2023 that various efforts were made to resume it and give continuity to its publication in a new stage from 2024, with a semiannual periodicity and under the name of Aportes Nueva Época, which arises with a digital format and incorporating elements of new technological platforms.
